ECO Journey

As a family-owned private Hospitality Company, Glendola Leisure takes great pride in our distinctive entrepreneurial approach, prioritising the development of a more sustainable company while actively reducing our carbon footprint. Our inhouse team of environmental enthusiasts collaborates closely with industry experts to spearhead key initiatives aimed at assessing our current carbon emissions and implementing a comprehensive climate action plan to mitigate overall environmental impact.

Our Progress So Far

  • Joined the Zero Carbon Forum (ZCF) in 2023 – a non-profit organisation helping the food and drink sector reach sustainability targets.
  • Developed and regularly update a Climate Action Plan (CAP) with the support of ZCF.
  • Submitted a Stage 3 Action Plan under the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).
  • Set a Net Zero Target aligned with government policy:
    • 2050 for England & Northern Ireland
    • 2045 for Scotland
  • Transitioned to a renewable energy contract.
  • Installed Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) equipment in the majority of businesses.
  • Integrated sustainability training into staff onboarding with two FLOW modules:
    • Be Energy Smart
    • Sustainability in the Kitchen
  • All UK sites are now separating waste for recycling.
  • Solar panels installed at select sites.
  • Compiled a list of high-energy-use equipment and identified more energy-efficient alternatives.
  • Submitting annual energy data to establish a baseline CO₂ emissions figure.

Ongoing Initiatives

  • Launching a behaviour change programme to reduce energy consumption and inefficiencies.
  • Trialling voltage optimisers to lower energy usage across sites.
  • Continuing the LED lighting upgrade in several locations to track ROI and energy savings.
  • Installing Passive Infra-Red (PIR) sensors to monitor and reduce lighting consumption.
  • Trialling filtered water systems in hotels, with plans for wider rollout.
  • Collaborating with HR to review and improve staff commuting practices.
  • Switching to low-carbon, environmentally friendly cleaning products in the central kitchen.

The team is working hard to meet their goals and is committed to fostering a greener, more environmentally sustainable future for Glendola Leisure. We are doing this by working through our Climate Action Plan, using the professional support and expertise at our disposal, and continuously seeking innovative ways to operate more responsibly across all areas of the business.
