Glendola Leisure is proud to support UKHospitality’s Stop the Holiday Tax campaign, a nationwide initiative opposing the introduction of a proposed new visitor levy in England.
The Government has announced plans to introduce a new tax on overnight stays. If
implemented, this would mean families paying more for UK breaks, potentially adding over £100 to the cost of a two-week holiday for a family of four.
At a time when households are already facing rising living costs, we believe holidays and short breaks in the UK should remain accessible and affordable. A per-night charge would disproportionately impact families, particularly during school holidays, when accommodation demand, and prices, are already higher.
Beyond families, the proposed holiday tax would have serious implications for hospitality businesses and the communities they support. Around 3.5 million people across the UK rely on hospitality and tourism for employment, many of them young people, part-time workers
and those in coastal, rural and city-centre communities where tourism plays a vital economic role.
Higher accommodation costs risk reducing visitor numbers and spending. When visitors spend less on dining, attractions and local experiences, it affects pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and cultural venues, putting local jobs and investment at risk.
Commenting on Glendola Leisure’s support for the campaign, Alex Salussolia, Managing Director, said:
“Hospitality businesses are already managing significant increases in operational costs. Introducing a holiday tax at this time would add further pressure, not only for operators, but for families choosing to holiday in the UK. We support UKHospitality’s call for Government to reconsider and protect jobs, communities and affordable domestic tourism.”
The Stop the Holiday Tax campaign encourages members of the public and businesses alike to make their voices heard. It takes less than a minute to visit the campaign website, calculate the potential additional cost to your holiday and write to your local MP.
We urge our guests, partners and colleagues across the sector to join us in supporting this important initiative.
