One of London’s most distinctive pubs, Waxy O’Connor’s, is celebrating 30 years in the heart of Soho this October. For three decades, Waxy O’Connor’s has occupied its own little corner of London’s West End — although there has never been very much that’s little about it.

With its famous tree, winding staircases, maze of bars and unmistakable atmosphere, Waxy’s has welcomed generations of Londoners, visitors and tourists through its doors. Live music, sport, late nights and great hospitality have all played their part, while the pub itself has remained unmistakably Waxy’s.

As Soho and London’s hospitality scene have changed around it, Waxy’s has continued to evolve while holding on to the character that made people fall in love with it in the first place. To mark the milestone, Waxy’s will celebrate on Thursday 8th October with One Big Birthday Party. 30 Years In The Making.

The celebrations begin from 12 noon with a 90s flashback on pricing, including Guinness at £3.50 a pint alongside selected drinks at throwback prices throughout the day.

From 5pm, live music takes centre stage, with some of the bands that have helped make Waxy’s famous for it returning for the occasion. Bible Code Sunday and Molly’s Chambers will be joined by special guests for an evening of live music and celebrations.

Alexander Salussolia, Managing Director of Glendola Leisure, said:“Waxy’s has always been one of those places that is difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it. There’s a warmth and personality to the pub that has been there from the beginning, but what I’m particularly proud of is that it continues to mean something to new generations of customers.

“Hospitality and Soho have changed enormously over the last 30 years, but Waxy’s has never tried to become something it isn’t. It has evolved while keeping the character, music, welcome and sense of discovery that made it special in the first place.

“This birthday is really about celebrating that, and the people who have been part of Waxy’s along the way — our customers, our teams and the musicians who have filled the pub over the years. We’re looking forward to bringing some of them back together and raising a glass to the next chapter.”

The anniversary reflects Glendola Leisure’s long-standing approach to creating and operating individual hospitality businesses with the personality and staying power to become part of the communities around them. And while there will be plenty of looking back on the night, Waxy’s has no intention of standing still.

The 30th birthday celebrations take place on Thursday 8th October, with Waxy O’Connor’s open as usual from 12 noon, 90s pricing throughout the day and the main birthday party and live music from 5pm until late.

Free entry. Everyone’s welcome.
